In 1944, 18-year-old Suzu is married off to a household in the naval port town of Kure. She tries hard to serve the family and spends her free time drawing. As her daily life goes on, the dark cloud of war approaches and the summer of 1945 comes around.

Born 1960, Katabuchi participated in the writing team of “Sherlock Hound” (Animation TV series) directed by Hayao Miyazaki while studying at Nihon University. He also served as Assistant Director for Miyazaki with Kiki's Delivery Service (1989) and made his directorial debut with “Lassie” (Animation TV series) in 1996. In 2009, he directed Mai Mai Miracle, which became a box office success. He also directed “Flowers Will Bloom”, an animation version of a music video produced by NHK.

Ben and Saoirse have a human father and a selkie mother who lived as a seal in the sea but shed her skin to become a human on land. One day, Saoirse is kidnapped by an owl which belonged to a witch. Ben decides to go on an adventure to save his little sister.

Born 1977 in Northern Ireland, Moore is a co-founder of Cartoon Saloon, an animation studio and production company, based in Ireland. His first feature film, The Secret of Kells (2009) was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film and this is his second feature film. He also co-directed a segment of The Prophet, adapted from Lebanese-American poet Kahlil Gibran's book of prose poetry essays, which was screened at Cannes Film Festival in 2015.
