2025 marks the 22nd annual SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL.

In response to the diversification of the film viewing experience in recent years, we chose to reexamine our role and direction and decided to suspend the International Competition after 21 consecutive years. As this international competition is a significant asset from the perspective of Japanese creators, we have received valuable yet strict feedback regarding the discontinuation of this event. We sincerely appreciate the depth of the passion shared by each and every one of you.

So, to meet the demands for diversification at this year’s film festival, we have revamped the competition to focus on discovering and nurturing Japanese creators. To propel futuristic projects utilizing the latest technological advancements, the convention hall will feature screenings of vertical-format films, which are popular with the younger generation, along with films fully created by AI, XR films, and more.

With that said, I hope everyone makes it to Kawaguchi City for another fun-filled film festival this year.

Lastly, as February of this year saw the sudden passing of Yoko Kunihiro, who has been involved with our film festival’s organization since the very beginning, we would like to offer our deepest condolences to those close to her.
