Aiming to become comedians, Sahara and his comedy partner Setoguchi work together on their act, “Ultrasweet Sourpork”, until unfortunate circumstances lead to their disbandment. Hindered by roadblocks on the path to success, Sahara suddenly encounters an “ideal” version of himself—an ultra-famous comedian. Boasting rich knowledge for success as a comedian, this “ideal” Sahara begins meddling with the real Sahara’s life. With light-hearted banter in Kansai dialect and progressive story development, this film comfortably combines humorous and serious subject matter to depict the struggles of distinguishing dreams from reality—ideals versus true feelings. Advanced technical capabilities in direction and editing support Mao Yoshino’s brilliant portrayal of Sahara’s dual personalities. This film is director Yuka Nishida’s first full-length film, serving as a graduation project to conclude her studies at Kyoto University of the Arts’ Department of Film Production. Her vision: depicting the desire to chat with one’s ideal self. This festival shall host the film’s world premiere screening.

Message
There is no such thing as a “weak” human being. Society is simply too powerful in comparison. Yet, people continue living day after day, unable to shake off that “ideal” version of themselves lingering on their shoulders. I want to dedicate this film to those very people specifically. During my final year of university, I am honored to release this film which my amazing colleagues and I created together. This experience reaffirmed how fun filmmaking can be!
