One day, a death god suddenly appears at the door of Morimi, a university student. By an unexpected turn of events, Morimi is granted two extra days to live, which he spends with the death god as his unlikely roommate. Morimi’s concerned friends, Osumi and Mitani, visit his apartment to check on him, unaware of his curious living arrangement. Blending humor with the profound theme of death, this film paints an honest portrait of a student coming to terms with the end of his life. With quiet resignation, Morimi accepts the presence of the death god, who is both hardworking and oddly endearing. As they spend his final days together, Morimi rediscovers the beauty in life’s fleeting nature. The distinct personalities of his friends also shine in this gentle and sweet, yet unflinchingly cruel tale. Director Isshin Kinoshita took on nearly every aspect of the production single-handedly, from directing and cinematography to editing. The result is a remarkable work infused with his passion and talent for film, set to make its world premiere at this festival.

Message

For me, this is an irreplaceable film, born of sweat and tireless effort. In many ways, it reflects the youth I shared with my peers. Though deeply personal from conception through production, this project was only completed with the support of those who understood how much it meant to me. I am truly honored and delighted that it will be screened at such a prestigious event.
