Better than My Dreams - Comment by Raymond Chow(2006)

I am very honored to have been asked to write a note on the Skip City International Digital Cinema Festival. This is because the Skip City IDCF reflects my ideal of the future of motion pictures.

When I was active in the film industry, I had tried very hard to push forward my vision of the future of the motion picture industry.
I believed that the way to discover new talent in digital cinema was to hold a festival every year.
Then I became bogged down by the numerous details, and eventually gave up.

Imagine my pleasant surprise when I was invited to attend the Skip City IDCF in 2006 and saw everything that I had dreamed about, and more. The professionally run competitions, international participation, full support of the community and major corporations, the efficient arrangements and programming, the knowledgeable and friendly staff and the incredible hospitality shown to me and to the other foreign participants...here is an organization that has the same ideas as myself about the future, and they have turned those ideas into reality. It was even better than my dreams!

Skip City IDCF is a joy to attend and its programming a real eye-opener for me. I believe I have found the future of the motion picture industry, and the talent needed to participate in this future. They are all at the Skip City International Digital Cinema Festival. Take my word for it!

I wish the Skip City IDCF every success, for many more years to come.

Comment by Roberta Chin (2006, 2007)

I wish I had more eyes, so I could watch all the movies in the limited time that I had. The 2007 IDCF brought in special screenings, and I was even more amazed at how far digital cinema had come in the "real world". But the biggest reward for me, friendship, came a few months later in early 2008, at a dinner party at a friend's house. I ran into two participants of the IDCF, and we talked as if we were best friends. We were the envy of the rest of the party!
Happy 5th birthday, Skip City IDCF!

* Music From The Inside Out will be released in Tokyo on May, 2008.

To my Skip City friends, I am thrilled to share my wonderful experiences at you film festival, while representing Music From The InsideOut. There is no match to the sound and picture quality Skip City has achieved.
You have presented an impressive list of original films, providing platform for idealistic and independent film makers.
Skip City's staff was a joy to work with, as a very friendly, accommodating, and dedicated group.
It was a dream for me as a musician to be a part of such a jewel of a festival. Good luck and best wishes for your special celebrations in 2008!! Sincerely, Your friend Udi Bar-David

(Director of Red Cockroaches, a nominee for the 2nd feature length competition)

Having been invited to the Skip City International Film Festival was completely unbelievable and a great honor to a no budget filmmaker like me. Specially because of the connection I've always had to Japanese culture throughout the films, specially the animation since a very young age while growing up in Cuba. The hospitality at the festival was extraordinary, making it a truly memorable experience. About the quality of the projection, I can't say how improve it. It was simply the best projection I've seen of my film to this date. Never before I had been in a festival where the projector was calibrated with such precision for each film with the filmmaker present. This is a problem in many other digital projections I've seen in other places, so I was very glad such care went into this one. I expect the festival to grow even more for 5th anniversary with bigger audiences and capacity for more films as it is already, in my view, the best place for digital films and its filmmakers.

Soeren Senn

(Director of Kuss Kuss, a nominee for the 3rd feature length competition)

Shooting a new film is every time like jumping into an unknown, exciting and fascinating new world.
Being invited to Skip City International Film Festival is a similar wonderful experience! I wish, this joyful festival will last forever and their organizers will stay as curious about enthusiastic filmmakers from around the world as I could experience it. So many people will forever be curious about this marvelous place of filmmaking in Japan.

Paul Piedfort

(Screenplay of Tangier, a nominee for the 4th feature length competition)

For me the Skip City Film Festival is different from other festivals. This is not only due to the high standard of selection or the fact that digital cinema is given the acknowledgement it deserves, but because it is a festival with a heart, returning this way to the basics of cinema: the art of telling stories from the heart.

Frank van Mechelen

(Director of Tangier, a nominee for the 4th feature length competition)

I don't have many regrets in life. Not being able to go to the Skip City Film Festival (edition 2007) because I was shooting another feature movie, is one of them.

Renato Bautista

(Director of Blackout, a nominee for the 4th feature length competition)

Emerging Skip City D-Cinema Film Festival is all about promoting the limitless potential of the digital medium and discovering new talents from all over the world. I'm proud to be the first and the youngest filmmaker from the Philippine who made it there with my second film Blackout. A significant experience I wish to duplicate once my third film Carnivore is done. My congratulations to Skip City on your 5th anniversary!
