Young Andy Dufresne, a bank vice president, has been thrown into Shawshank State Prison, convicted of murdering his wife and her lover. At first, he refuses to fall in line with the conventions of prisoner life and finds himself isolated, but Red—an old-timer at the jail and its resident smuggler—senses he is different from the other convicts. Two years into his sentence, Andy wins beer for his fellow inmates by solving an inheritance issue for a guard named Captain Hadley, and his life in the prison begins to change as this incident gains him respect from both fellow inmates and staff. A timeless masterpiece that has been passed down as a beloved classic among cinephiles. It saw its first Japanese release in 1995, with a digitally remastered version released in 2022.
